Preparations to welcome Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida of Thailand are in full swing. Their Majesties will be in Bhutan on a State Visit at the invitation of His Majesty The King. Announcing the visit officially, the Prime Minister said that the occasion is expected to further strengthen the bonds of goodwill, mutual understanding, and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

From carrying out road maintenance and hoisting flags to the installation of portraits and flowers, the country is radiating excitement.

Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, hundreds of people in Paro and Thimphu have spent months preparing for the state visit.

Leading up to the visit, Bhutanese have been immersing themselves in Thai culture through a series of events such as Thai festival and an outdoor cinema screening.

Preparations to receive their Majesties with ceremonial honours, beginning with a traditional reception at the Paro International Airport, are now complete.

Their Majesties, The King and Queen of Thailand, will arrive on Friday.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said, “His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, after ascending the throne as the 10th monarch, is making his first official state visit to Bhutan among many countries in the world.”

The visit will mark His Majesty The King of Thailand’s second visit to Bhutan, the first being in 1991 as the Crown Prince.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1989, the prime minister says, relations between the two nations have continued to thrive.

The prime minister added, “Recently, the two countries have also successfully concluded and signed the Free Trade Agreement, which has further strengthened the economic partnership and created new opportunities for businesses and investors in both countries.”

During the state visit, Their Majesties will meet His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Their Majesties will also visit spiritual and cultural sites and grace special events commemorating the friendship between Bhutan and Thailand.

Their Majesties are scheduled to return on 28th April.
