A book titled ‘Bhutan: Kingdom of Mindfulness’, aimed at promoting Bhutan as an exclusive travel destination, was launched yesterday. Written by Dorji Dhratyul, former Director General of the Department of Tourism, the book seeks to boost the tourism industry in the country.
The 400-page book begins with the classic love story of Singgay Galeem, drawing readers into the romantic allure of Bhutan.
It then delves into the history of the country, must-visit places and events, cultures and art to observe, and essential steps for planning a trip to Bhutan.
The book concludes with a chapter providing helpful websites and contact information for travel and emergencies in Bhutan.
Those who have read the book say it serves as a catalogue for Bhutanese culture, featuring captivating photographs with concise but essential details.
The author said the book will not only serve as a travelogue for tourists but will be a valuable resource to young Bhutanese, helping them connect with their history and culture.
Dorji Dhratyul said, “I resigned in March 2024 after nearly four and a half years with the tourism department. Even in retirement, I wanted to continue contributing to the tourism sector. My first goal was to stay connected with tourism. I felt that this travel guidebook would help promote our country and reinforce the efforts of the Department of Tourism.”
He added that the book stands out from others currently available because it offers up-to-date information by a Bhutanese author.
“While most information in this book is targeted towards helping first-time visitors to Bhutan or attracting people to come to Bhutan, it also has some information which may not be necessarily just for tourists or visitors. For example, it can be very useful or even new information for our Bhutanese population.”
The book was published by Alu Quchu, a publishing service in Bhutan.
