According to the Department of Revenue and Customs, eleven vehicle dealers overcharged more than 4300 customers on green tax over the past six year. The notification issued by the DRC yesterday states that the companies have to refund the excess charges by mid-February. The department uncovered the overcharged green tax during an analysis of the impact of taxes on vehicle pricing.
According to the notification, Zimdra Motors will have to issue refunds amounting to more than Nu 14.3 M to 1,120 customers.
Likewise, STCBL has to pay more than Nu 9.4 M for more than 850 buyers.
Bhutan Hyundai Motor overcharged green tax to more than 1,700 customers amounting to more than Nu 4.9 M.
Similarly, Bhutan Isuzu has to pay out over Nu 770,000 for more than 160 vehicles while Shingkhar Auto has to pay more than Nu 523,000 for 190 vehicles.
Samden Vehicle and Zimbi have to pay more than Nu 320,000 and Nu 219,000 respectively to the owners of 55 vehicles.
Singye Agencies has been found to overcharge by more than Nu 130,000 for 185 vehicles.
Leksol Motor and TCD Private Limited will have to pay nearly Nu 29,000 and Nu 25,000 to the owners of six vehicles.
Freedom Motors has to refund more than 1,700 ngultrum for 32 vehicles.
The notification states that individuals who purchased vehicles from the eleven dealers between January 2019 and 30th November last year are entitled to a refund.
It also says that henceforth, the department shall levy severe penalties and prosecute offenders in a court of law.
