The upcoming Ed Sheeran concert, scheduled for next week, is more than just music and entertainment. It is a well-rounded experience for everyone involved, from Desuups to officials preparing for the event. For the local participants, collaborating with the Ed Sheeran team has provided them with invaluable experience and knowledge, equipping them to handle future large-scale events.
With all the equipment for the concert and the manpower sourced both locally and internationally, the concert preparations are unlike anything ever witnessed in the country.
There are around 150 local people including three teams of Desuups and officials from different stakeholders involved in preparation for the concert.
The coordinator said that the coming days will see more people joining the preparation efforts, with an expectation of gaining further knowledge and experience.
Choeying Jatsho, a coordinator said “Regarding the truss works, if I just mention a few examples, just the idea of having the roof of a tent put up on a truss, that is new knowledge. And small things such as using Vaseline instead of grease, to make sure that the roofs don’t get dirty but get the job done, so that is something that we appreciate and yes, like I mentioned from the start itself there’s a lot of learning and we are excited to learn more.”
Desuups working in the field shared that it is a unique experience for them.
Kinley Tshering, one of the Desuup coordinators said “The experience has been quite different from what I have learned locally. Previously, we would construct event stages using plywood. However, the Ed Sheeran team uses a metal structure in a knot system. I believe young individuals involved have gained valuable experience working with them.”
Sherab Tenzin, also a Desuup coordinator said “Before we began the work, we had to level the ground, which took three days. A new experience for us was protecting the ground by placing plywood over it. Their approach to work, starting with using infrastructure, is very different and much more convenient.”
As the upcoming Ed Sheeran concert approaches, the excitement builds, not only for the performance itself but also for the achievement it leaves behind in empowering the people involved.
