To promote locally made products both domestically and internationally, a new Cottage and Small Industry or CSI Market is now opened in Samdrup Jongkhar. This is the third such outlet in the country, with others located in Thimphu and Paro.
More than 80 products are now available at the CSI Market, offering a diverse range of locally made products.
The Department of Industry in collaboration with a local entrepreneur established the outlet.
During the inauguration, officials said that the new market will not only promote local products but also create opportunities to reach international markets.
Jambay Yeshi, Chief Industries Officer of Dept of Industry said “Cottage and small industries based in nook and corner of the country have generated employment within their locality. It has helped uplift the livelihoods of grassroots communities and thus plays a crucial role in poverty reduction and nation-building at large.”
Tashi Wangmo, Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongda said “Since 7th of the November, with the opening of an integrated check post, even dollar-paying tourists can enter via Samdrup Jongkhar. So, the opening of CSI Market will be of benefit.”
Kuenga Namgay, a resident said “We are happy to see new products here.”
The CSI Market in Samdrup Jongkhar will provide a dedicated platform for local businesses, particularly from eastern and southern districts, to showcase and sell their products.
This initiative promotes value addition and creates employment opportunities for the country.
