School children recite Lolay for His Majesty and the Gyaltsuen

Loley.His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen received a group of Thimphu school children, who recited Lolay, at the Royal Lingkana Palace to commemorate the beginning of an auspicious New Year, on the eve of Nyilo, today.

Lolay is sung to commemorate the beginning of New Year, on the eve of Nyilo. Nyilo is celebrated as New Year especially by the people of Wang-Tsho-Chey-Gey.

Their Majesties then granted soelra to the students.

In the olden days, children used to go to every household singing Lolay. In return, the owner would give money, rice, meat and other items to the children. They children would take everything they have collected and go for a picnic the next day.

Meanwhile, the government offices and institutions across the country will remain closed tomorrow to observe Nyilo.
