BCCI-ActThe Federation of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bill was discussed again at the BCCI’s annual general meeting today.

Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) at present functions under a Memorandum of Understanding known as Article of the Association of the Chamber. Over the years the chamber has felt the need for a legal backing for the BCCI to function like any other business federations.

“When we try to put forward advocacy issues, we are questioned whether we represent the whole private sector or whether it is an individual issues we are taking forward,” said BCCI’s General Secretary, Phub Tshering.

The General Secretary said an Act will not only help the Chamber but the private sector as well.

The Federation of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bill was first tabled to the parliament in 2009. It was proposed once again last year. However, the Chamber was asked to fall back and join as the Civil Society Organization.
