People of Khamdang Gewog in Trashi Yangtse have been without waste collection services for a few months now. They rely on the district’s municipal office for waste collection service. They are now waiting for the office to resume the service. Without waste collection service, people say it is inconvenient.

People in various parts of Khamdang Geowg have accumulated waste in sacks.

They are waiting for the waste collector tractor to dispose of the waste.

According to some residents, it has been months without the service.

There are more than 3,000 residents in Khamdang Gewog.

Every month, the residents have to pay Nu 50 and shopkeepers pay Nu 100 for the waste collection service.

“It was convenient when the tractor arrived once a week. We could dump the waste. We heard that the tractor is non-operational but still, it used to come once a month. After that, it did not come at all and now it has been months without the service,” said Lobzang Choden, a resident.

“We cannot burn the waste. So, we piled up the waste. Sometimes when we go to Doksum, we dump it there. It is inconvenient without the service,” said Kunzang Wangmo, a shopkeeper.

According to the municipal office, the tractor which collects the waste is not fully operational. Officials say parts of the tractor have worn out and the required spare parts are not readily available.

They have already placed orders for the spare parts and are waiting for them to arrive.

Officials say the waste collection service is provided to residents of Trashi Yangtse town, Doksum town and Khamdang Gewog, which is near Doksum.
