The Thimphu District Court has sentenced 11 people. The sentence ranges from one month to 10 years.

They were booked the murder of a 26-year-old widower and injuring two other people. The incident took place in May this year near Changjiji Bridge in Thimphu.

The main culprit, a former monk from Punakha, has been sentenced to 10 years. He was charged for murdering, attempt to murder and also for hiding from the police.

The verdict stated that he was asked to pay a compensation of Nu 2,62,866  within a year to the deceased’s family and Nu 15,000 to one of the victims within 10 days. The other convict was also asked to pay compensation to the deceased’s family and the injured.

The bar owner has been given two years imprisonment for failing to report the crime. The other charges include providing false information about the bar’s closing time to the court.

At the night of the incident, the suspects along with the deceased and his friends were in the same bar where a brawl broke out among them.

The body of the deceased was found 150 metres away from the bar, drenched in blood.
