As part of the International Cancer Symposium, Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tseyring Pem Wangchuck declared the winners of an art competition themed “what does cancer mean to you?”. To convey the message of cervical cancer’s threat through art, more than a hundred students from Thimphu Thromde participated in the competition.

Students competed in three categories: classes seven and eight, nine and ten, and eleven and twelve.

According to the winners, they were able to learn more about cervical cancer through the competition.

“Before I did not know anything about cervical cancer. So, I researched about it on Google. My picture contains one message, that we should always avoid things that can cause us cervical cancer,” said Annette Francis, winner of the Class VII – VIII category.

“In the 21st century, cervical cancer has affected many women and men. Last time, we were informed about the art competition. I thought I should participate in conveying the message through art. Therefore, I participated in conveying the messages on the prevention of cervical cancer,” said Tshering Wangchuk, the winner of class XI-XII category.

The winners were awarded certificates and prizes.

The competition is aimed to include the youth in creating awareness about cancer.
