The number of vehicles coming for a refuel at Bhutan Oil Distributors (BOD) depot in Thimphu showed no sign of receding even today. Motorists have been rushing to the depot since yesterday after learning that there will be a fuel shortage due to tankers staging a strike in Siliguri, India.

The officials from BOD described the sale of fuel as ‘abnormally high’ since yesterday.

The Bhutan Oil Distributors used to sell some 12,000 litres of fuel in a day but yesterday went up to 15,000 litres.

The Manager of BOD said if vehicles keep on coming like this, they will run out of fuel. “We are looking at Dechencholing oil reserve as an interim measure just in case,” said the Manager

Meanwhile, the Department of Trade said the general public need not panic about fuel shortage as there is enough oil reserve
