From acute labour shortage to soaring material costs, the country’s construction sector faced growing challenges amid the pandemic. But this issue is expected to resolve with the launch of e-learning management system for Technical and Vocational Education and Training or TVET institutes. The implementation of the system will facilitate the immediate need of the labour market.

The Labour Ministry launched the E-learning Management System yesterday. The system will enhance uninterrupted teaching and learning of TVET courses in any given situation.

“Through this kind of system, we can adopt a modular-based delivery system where we can have multi-entry and exit of our trainees. Currently, our ministry is initiating to introduce the modular system in response to the immediate need of our labor market, which is impacted by the pandemic,” said Karma Dorji, the officiating deputy chief programme officer of the department of technical education under the labour ministry.

“As you all know the construction sector is mostly on halt due to lack of skilled workers. So, this system will enable to have such kind of delivery system where trainees can exit from the module and contribute as skilled workers. And later, they can re-entry and continue with the online training.”

Eight TVET institutes will use the e-learning management system.
