After waiting for 13 long years, Sangay Lethro’s walnut trees have finally started to bear fruits. The 38 years old farmer from Wangdigang village in Zhemgang is hoping for a bountiful yield which in turn will help ease his financial situation.

“By October, I can market walnuts from my orchard,” said Sangay Lethro.   He had planted 200 walnut trees. He said he planted them in a hope that it will benefit him one day. He began planting the saplings in 1999 with the support of Dzongkhag agriculture sector.

Sangay Lethro said it is not a difficult task to manage walnut orchard. “After you plant the saplings, you have to clear the bushes that grow around the saplings, once a year.”

Apart from the Walnut orchard, Sangay Lethro, also grows other cash crops and vegetables. He has about 150 mandarin, guava and mango trees.

Today, Sangay Lethro is a happy man that his perseverance has finally paid off. He is now a man with a dream, a dream to build a house for his family and also to become a top horticulturist.
