For a country like Bhutan, where religious practices are profound, treating illnesses by taking refuge in them is also vibrant. Reciting the scripture of Medicine Buddha is one of them. However, not many are aware of the practice today. To create awareness and make the remedy available, an individual offered a volume of Medicine Buddha scripture, written in gold to Changangkha Lhakhang in Thimphu.

The owner of the Nado Incense Factory in Thimphu offered the 129-page volume of the scripture to the Changangkha Lhakhang today. The scripture is believed to liberate sentient beings from illnesses, suffering, and disasters.

According to Khenpo Kencho Tshering, a teacher at the Pangrizampa College for Astrology in Thimphu, the practice was instituted by the 25th Je Khenpo at Kyichu Lhakhang during the 18th century.

It is believed that a lot of sick people recovered from their illnesses after the 25th Je Khenpo Sherab Gyeltshen recited the scripture written in gold.

“Reciting the scriptures will help ward-off the pandemic,” the Khenpo said,

Meanwhile, Nado also offered a similar scripture with 117 pages to  Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang in June this year.
