The Tashichhoeling Gewog Administration in Samtse has misused funds and public property amounting to nearly Nu 450,000. This is according to the Audit Report for 2020. Around Nu 700,000 from the office funds was also embezzled.

Around Nu 400,000 was misappropriated by increasing the number of days for a farmers’ training on Water User Association. The report stated that the actual days of training were less compared to the one reflected on the payment details maintained by the Gewog Administration.

As per the report, the Chairman of the Dangling Vegetable Group had illegally sold a mini power-tiller to a private individual for Nu 50,000. The power-tiller was procured during the 2014-2015 fiscal year at a cost of Nu 85,000. The report stated that the lapses had occurred apparently due to inadequate monitoring and supervision by the Gewog Administration and due to a lack of sense of ownership on the part of the beneficiaries.

According to the audit report, there were shortages of cement, electric fencing materials, pipes and funds amounting to Nu 700,000.

Meanwhile, according to gewog officials, the gewog will resolve the irregularities once the lockdown is lifted in the Gewog. Tashichhoeling Gewog was under lockdown on June 29 after the detection of a COVID case from the community.
