10 bedded hospital for Tsirang-Toed by October this year

The construction of a new 10-bedded hospital in Tsirang Toed Gewog of Tsirang will be completed by October this year. Around 80 per cent of the construction works have been completed so far. The hospital will also benefit the nearby people of Sergithang and Pungtenchhu gewogs.

The works to construct the hospital began towards the end of 2019. Currently, roofing works are underway. Once operational, the hospital will have a permanent doctor along with other health workers providing regular healthcare services. The hospital will also have a laboratory testing facility, a traditional medicine clinical assistant or Menpa, and one ambulance.

“Therere are over 4500 people in Tsirang Toed, Pungtenchhu and Sergithang Gewogs. Some of them are located almost 45 kilometres away from Damphu hospital. Now we will able to give health services much faster,” said Lobzang Tshering, Tsirang’s Senior District Health Officer.

The people in the gewog are excited.

“Earlier, we only had one Health Assistant but we are told the new hospital will have one doctor. This will help bring healthcare services closer to us because travelling to Damphu takes around two hours. It will help us save time and money,” said Choeda, a resident of Tsirang Toed Gewog.

“The new BHU will benefit the people a lot because we are farmers and we don’t have time to go to far-off places like Thimphu, Wangdue, and Punakha. Even Damphu is quite far for us,” said P.L Sharma, another resident of the gewog.

The construction of the hospital is funded by the Indian government through the Small Development Project.
