The water woes of some 1,500 residents in upper Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde are expected to end soon. The De-suung National Service Water Project in the town began today.

60 De-suups along with personnel from the Royal Bhutan Army and Thromde officials are executing the project worth more than Nu 3 M.

As part of the project, the group will construct a new water tank for the residents of the Samdrup Jongkhar Toed constituency. Likewise, a new pipeline will also be laid to draw water into the tank from the Thromde’s water treatment plant located at Pinchina.

Today, due to the old and leaking pipes, residents do not receive enough supply of water from Thromde’s water treatment plant.

“We face water problems frequently. And now with monsoon season, the problem is only going to worsen. However, the water project is expected to solve the matter and benefit us,” said Ugyen Lhamo, a resident.

“We have a water problem, last time we didn’t receive water at all, I informed thromde officials and they supplied water, I think De-suup water project here will solve the water problem,” added Kinzang Lhaden, another resident.

The project is expected to complete by September, this year.

Since the first water project in Guma, Punakha in November, last year, the De-suung National Service Water Project has been initiated in various parts of the country.

The De-suung National Service Water Project not only aims to help the community in providing safe and reliable drinking water but also aims to impart new skills and practical knowledge in water management infrastructure to Desuups.
