Trashigang undergoes three-day lockdown

Trashigang Dzongkhag is under lockdown beginning today for three days following an increasing number of COVID-19 cases from Merag Gewog. The lockdown was announced by the Dzongkhag Task Force yesterday night. There are 12 positive cases in the Dzongkhag. 

The inter Dzongkhag and gewog movement of vehicle and people are restricted.

The schools, institutes and offices will also remain closed, however, farming and movement of people within their Gewog are allowed.  Public bus service, shops and restaurants will also remain closed.

“We are going to trace both primary and secondary contacts of positive cases and will do a screening. The community screening will start tomorrow and will end on the 24th. Then we will send the samples and relaxation of lockdown will depend upon the results,” said Trashigang Dzongdag Chekey Gyeltshen, who heads the district COVID task force.

Meanwhile, the community screening in Merag started today. And Merag and Saagteng Gewogs are under complete lockdown until further notice. The first COVID-19 infection was detected in two individuals from Merag Gewog on May 19.
