38-year-old Tshering Norbu, a father of two, is one of the Thrompon candidates for Gelegphu Thromde. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Sherubtse College. Representing the Trashiling constituency, he also contested for the same post in the last Thromde elections.

According to him, he has a strong connection with Gelegphu and wishes to contribute to the community with developmental works to fulfil the aspiration of His Majesty of making Gelegphu a model city of Bhutan.

“To be a moral city, first of all, Gelegphu has to be a livable city. We have to have modern infrastructure and amenities in place. The city should be very safe, secure and healthy. With those concepts in my mind, I am re-contesting for the second time,” he said.

He said if he makes it through this election, his first priority would be to follow up with higher authority to resolve green belt issues for permitting the housing construction at Namhkaling constituency near the border gate and to ensure uninterrupted drinking water round the clock in all six constituencies.

“I have an issue to address regarding a green belt zone in one of the constituencies. People are living in pathetic condition. They don’t have basic facilities like road, drains, sewerage and they are not allowed to expand their houses, though their families are growing. So these are some areas that we have to look into,” he added.

Trashiling constituency elected Tshering Norbu as their candidate to contest for the upcoming Thrompon election. He was a lone candidate. He secured 53 yes votes and five no votes from a total of 58 votes cast. Trashiling constituency has a total of 125. Gelegphu Thromde has a total of 1,542 eligible voters.
