Following a tip-off, police in Zawakha under Wangdue Phodrang arrested a 25-year-old man for alleged cattle lifting from Gyala (Jaala) chiwog in Ruebisa Gewog on the morning of March 13. The suspect from Barshong in Tsirang was arrested early morning at 2 AM. A source says the villagers of Drema village informed the police about a man transporting cattle in a bolero truck during the night.

The stolen cattle were recovered and handed over to their respective owners and the case is being investigated.

According to the source, the suspect is also alleged to have attempted to steal another cow by tying it up near the village.

According to the chiwog Tshogpa, the villagers have been missing their cattle for quite some time. He says unknown miscreants might be taking advantage since their village is located near the Tsirang-Wangdue National Highway. Moreover, the farmers there allow their cattle to wander freely in the area.

Meanwhile, the suspect was escorted to the Royal Court of Justice today for obtaining a remand order to carry out further investigation. The suspect would be charged for larceny, which has a value base sentencing as per the Bhutan Penal Code.
