Schools in Haa will open only after a week as 120 students studying in Haa arrived from Thimphu and Paro today. They will undergo a weeklong quarantine. There are three Higher Secondary Schools in Haa.

Coinciding with Lomba and the National Day holidays which is followed by a weekend, students from nearby districts went home to celebrate Lomba and meet their families. Most of them went to Thimphu and Paro. However, according to directives from the National Taskforce to open schools, students have returned to their respective schools.

“We have 120 students in quarantine right now. If we start classes from Monday, these students will miss their classes. Once they complete the one-week quarantine then we will open the schools like the government’s directives,” said Kinzang Dorji, the Haa Dzongdag.

Meanwhile, Haa town, Betsho and Tsiloongkha villages under Uesu Gewog is now declared as a green and safe zone. Earlier it was a yellow zone as a student tested positive.

Over 1,027 RT-PCR tests were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday from these areas and all tested negative for COVID-19.

“For 25 days we have screened and did rigorous testing. We are fortunate that no cases were detected. Therefore we are declaring our district as a green zone as well,” said Haa Dzongdag.

Meanwhile, 518 rapid antigen tests from safe zones such as Bji, Samar, Sangbaykha and Gakidling Gewogs were also conducted. And all came negative.

The Dzongdag added that people should be more cautious though the Dzongkhag is a green zone.
