Punakha police arrested two men, 50 and 55, from Punakha on Wednesday for the breach of lockdown protocols. The men, from Kabesa, had come to Thimphu for a court case. After the lockdown was enforced, they left their vehicle at Dechencholing and walked to Punakha via Sinchula mountain under Kawang Gewog. The journey took them five hours.

Upon reaching Punakha, they had directly entered their village, but the police arrested them following a report. The men told the police that they had to return as they did not have any place to stay during the lockdown.

The Medical Surveillance Team conducted a rapid antigen test. Both of them tested negative.

For now, they are under police custody. Police said they would forward the case to court soon, to be charged for Criminal Nuisance and Breach of Public Order and Tranquility under the Penal Code of Bhutan 2004.
