Frontline workers in Sarpang district are receiving support in their efforts to fight COVID-19 from a citizen’s group. The group, Friends of Frontliners, recently donated cooking utensils and facemasks to help the frontliners with their efforts.

The Friends of Frontliners donated 61 numbers each of rice cookers, curry cookers and electric kettles, and 2000 facemasks for the frontline workers of Sarpang dzongkhag.

According to the Dzongda, the group has been formed under the instructions of His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck who is currently in the district overseeing the efforts of frontliners.

“Sarpang dzongkhag has a total of 75 points of entry along the border area. In those areas, we have DeSuups, Police and army personnel. In some places, they have to cook meals by themselves and some don’t have access to proper cooking utensils. Dasho came to know about this and formed the group known as Friends of Frontliners to support the frontline workers,” said Karma Galay, the Sarpang Dzongda.

The Friends of Frontliners is a citizens’ initiative formed by Sarpang district and with the objective to seek voluntary donations in kind, cash or service from the public and business sectors.

“If we don’t render support to our frontline workers, they encounter many problems despite government support.  That’s why it is being initiated from public sides within our capacities,” said Dawa Penjor, one of the Friends of Frontliners in Sarpang.

Today, the Friends of Frontliners has around 200 members.
