Teachers’ Day is usually celebrated grandly where students organise various programmes to pay respects to their teachers, but this year the day was celebrated differently. Teachers of Bhutan Volunteers (VTOB), on behalf of all the teachers in the country, came forward and celebrated by dedicating this Teachers’ Day to His Majesty The King to honour the greatness of the leadership.

To mark the day, the teacher volunteers launched a five minute educational YouTube channel as another dedication to His Majesty The King. It’s a channel where teachers and students can contribute content based on various themes that are useful to everyone.

“5 Minutes of VTOB Bhutan is a YouTube channel where teachers and students can contribute content and this content can be based on various themes which are useful to children, which are useful to people, which are useful to the society and it will also give a platform for children as well as teachers to participate in content development and online resources,” said Sonam Norbu, the VTOB Coordinator.

Similarly, VTOB shared their future projects which they would continue even in the post-COVID-19 era.

“VTOB was never for COVID-19 only. VTOB from the beginning itself was beyond COVID-19. So there are many things that teachers can do when we are together and to be very precise we have five big future plans. We have Lobthru Lamtoen which is a programme where teachers on a voluntary basis will work towards instilling values, competencies and positive attitudes of children. Then we are also going to come up with magazine called Druk Lopens, it can be digital or like an electronic e-book or it can be a hard copybook. Then we also have Bhutan children writeshop,” he added.

Further, VTOB will also come up with Lopen-Lobthru Zhibtshoel, which is a collaborative research that would be carried out by teachers and students together to add value to research-based works and project-based learning.

There are more than 4,000 teachers under VTOB.
