Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment declared the class ten results 2019, today. The overall pass percentage is 93.63 per cent which is 2.93 per cent less than the 2018 pass percentage of 96.56 per cent.
Namita Giri from Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School topped the Bhutan Certificate of Secondary Examination (BCSE) 2019 with 93 per cent. With 92.80 per cent, the second toppers are Hari Prasad Acharya from Damphu Central School and Deki Lhamo from Gongzim Ugyen Dorji Central School. Nima Wangdi Waiba from Dagapela Middle Secondary School took the third position with 92.60 per cent.
With no cut-off point this time, all 11,810 students who passed the 2019 class ten examinations will be eligible for enrolment in private and government schools.
Prior to the result declaration, the Ministry had asked the interested students opting to apply to any of the private schools to first register online last week. The online registration listed about 8000 students. But as per the class eleven admission into private school instructions 2020, the Ministry will provide scholarship to only 2700 students in private schools. And the intake in government higher secondary schools is around 9400 students including students of Taktse Rigzhung Higher Secondary School.
“The number of students registered for private school is 8000 and it’s a big number. Well, we do respect the number but during the registration, the students were a little bit confused. And some because of fear factors registered with us. And I say this because many have approached the Ministry whether they could withdraw from the registration that they have done. So we told them that we just wanted to know the number and it is not really mandatory for the students to study in the private school. If they now choose not to study, the option is left to them. The bottom line is we want all the students to be in the school either in private or government schools,” said Karma Tshering, the Director-General for Department of School Education under the Education Ministry.
Those online registered students with the ministry looking for admission in private schools of their choice will have to start seeking admissions from Monday next week. The admission in the government schools will take place upon completion of admission in private schools based on the intake capacity of the schools. Instruction for class eleven admission into government higher secondary schools will be announced on 31st of January.
More than 12,000 students from 125 secondary schools appeared the 2019 BCSE last year. Of which 804 failed and 144 were absent.
