The business community of Pema Gatshel town started moving to the new town at Denchi. Eight individuals started constructions at Denchi as of today.

Some 27 landowners were allocated commercial plot in the first phase in 2016.

Today, most of the landowners are ready to start constructions at the new town. The dzongkhag municipal office is currently looking into the development of the new town.

“All 28 plot owners submitted their drawings but only 25 drawings are with the municipality. The remaining three had some issues with the designs and been returned for revision. Of the 25, 15 had been approved for constructions,” said Tenzin Rabgay, an architect with the dzongkhag municipality.

The wait for the completion of the Dzong and the government’s approval to construct three-storeyed buildings delayed the development of the new town.

“If the private buildings completed before the construction of the dzong is complete, they feared there will not be tenants to live in their buildings. Also, approval of drawings took time. Being a remote dzongkhag, we have to contact designers in Thimphu and that takes time,” said Tenzin Rabgay.

The Dzongkhag is looking forward to completing the development of the town before the construction of the dzong is completed by 2020.
