To create more awareness on Paralympics and to help more nations take part in the Paralympic Games, a 5-day Sports Technical Course on Para Archery and Para Table Tennis began in the capital yesterday.

International Paralympic Committee and Agitos Foundation in collaboration with the Bhutan Paralympic Committee are conducting the course for the first time in Bhutan.

Over 30 coaches and classifiers associated with Paralympic games from Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka are currently attending the Sports Technical Course on Para Archery and Para Table Tennis.

Over the course of the 5-day training, participants will enhance their skills and knowledge of coaching and classification with international educators, as well as get prepared to engage in future sports events in their region and worldwide. The aim is to have more participants in promoting a more inclusive society.

“The outcome of this programme is hoping to see more nations representative at the Paralympic games. By having more countries represented at Paralympic games we try to create more awareness in those countries thereby creating a more inclusive society,” said Benoit Struys, the Sport Technical Program Coordinator at Agitos Foundation.

Further, the course also aims to strengthen the capacity of National Paralympics Committees and create a sustainable impact on the growth of the Paralympic movement in the regions. The training will end on Sunday.
