Two sentenced in Babesa futsal ground’s battery case

The Family and Child Bench in Thimphu sentenced two men to prison terms ranging from one year seven months to two years three months for battery. The incident took place on June 13 this year at Babesa futsal ground.

The judgement was passed last week.

The 20-year-old man, the main convict was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for assaulting a 17-year-old boy. In a video clip, which went viral on social media, he was also seen making the victim kiss his shoes and prostrate.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, a month before the incident, the defendant and the victim had quarrelled. On June 13, the defendant and his friend went in search of the boy and spotted him at Babesa futsal ground. After hitting the victim several times, he asked his friend to film it on his mobile phone.

He was arrested on August 5 by Thimphu Police after the viral video clip and later the police also arrested the man who filmed the incident.

The OAG said, the man is a repeated offender and his friend also has a past record of illegal sale and use of harmful chemical substances, their prison term has been increased.

Meanwhile, another friend, who was the witness of the incident is slapped with Nu 3,750 for failure to report the crime.
