People of Merag are not happy with the decision of Trashigang Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) to blacktop the Merag Gewog Centre (GC) road from Chaling village in Shongphu Gewog.

This was discussed during the consultation meeting with public and Dzongkhag official held on 5th September. During the meeting, Merag residents share their concern on their GC road blacktopping work. They said the present GC road which is routed through Togshingmang village in Radhi Gewog is stable and most people use this road.

“As a highlander, we cannot grow crops, we depend on the crops of Radhi and Phongmey, which we transport using the present road. Moreover. after completing class six, our children are enrolled in Dungtse School and children from remote Khiliphoo chiwog are enrolled in Togshingmang boarding school,” said Dawa, from Gyen-go village in Merak.

The Trashigang Dzongrab told the public that, they cannot overtake Dzongkhag Tshogdu decision so they have to wait for another session to endorse or change if needed.

Meanwhile, the GC road blacktopping work from the gewog will be started soon. Merag Mangmi Phurpa said they will meet with the public and discuss which road will be connected to the GC road and put in the next DT session.

Merag Gewog has around Nu 29 M in the financial year of 2019-2020 to blacktop the Merag GC road.
