The member countries of the World Health Organization South-East Asia Region adopted the Delhi Declaration – Emergency Preparedness in the region at a ministerial round table in New Delhi, today.
With the Delhi Declaration in place, the South-East Asia Region will strengthen the emergency preparedness capacities by scaling up risk assessment, increasing investments, and enhancing implementation of multi-sectoral plans.
The declaration identified four key initiatives to identify risks by mapping and assessing vulnerabilities for evidence-based planning, implement measures for disaster risk reduction, prepare and operationalise readiness.
The declaration also calls for implementing, monitoring, testing and adequately funding national action plans on disaster risk management, emergency preparedness and response.
Ministers of Health and heads of delegations from the 11 member countries, including Bhutan participated in the round table meeting.
