UNICEF U-18 boys’ club cricket championship underway

The first UNICEF Under-18 boys’ club cricket championship began in Thimphu from yesterday. 10 clubs from Samtse, Sarpang, Paro and Thimphu are taking part in the tournament.

It is a 20 over tournament played in two venues at Pelkhil School and Jimithang cricket ground in Dechencholing. The finals will be played on 23rd of this month along with the BCCB Women’s T20 Club Championship cricket tournament which is also underway in the capital.

The winners will be awarded a cash prize of  Nu 150,00  and the runners up with Nu 100,000. The tournament is funded by the UNICEF. The Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) plans to conduct this tournament annually.

The tournament is organised primarily to engage youth during the vacation and to promote club cricket in the country.
