People of Lingzhi and Soe Gewog under Thimphu Dzongkhag are now connected with the third generation mobile network (3G) services. From improved and faster administrative works to communicating with families, 3G services have benefited the people of these remotest villages in Bhutan.

Most of the people of Lingzhi and Soe Gewog are currently either in the mountains collecting cordyceps or herding yaks away from their homes. Unlike in the past, these people can now video call and send messages to their families back in villages. The upgraded network has made communication faster.

“In the past, it was difficult to even get connected via mobile phone but today after 3G has been installed, we can video call our children and send voice messages through Wechat,” said Tshering Wangdi from Lingzhi.

“Earlier we can’t even send a photo. It takes lots of time. Now we can even send videos and photos fast like 4G services. Right now the service is fast and we are grateful for that,” added Nim Tshering from Soe.

Moreover, 3G has made the administrative works much easier.

“When we had 2G and when office sends us documents, it used to take 2 to 3 days to download a letter. Now we can do it faster in a short period of time,” Dorji Wangmo, the Adm Assistant for Lingzhi Gewog, said.

Bhutan telecom commissioned the 3G service in Soe in May and in Lingzhi Gewog it was upgraded in June this year.  The office had spent around Nu 22.3 M for the Project.
