All the banks in the country have stopped issuing Rupee in cash for the time being. The move comes after a directive from the Royal Monetary Authority. The RMA’s notification says, the general public have been taking advantage and misusing the facility by drawing significant amount of Rrupee on a daily basis, for hoarding.

Earlier, the banks were issuing Re. 10,000 in cash to all Bhutanese mainly to facilitate business, studies and medical travel, and transit cash requirement.

Meanwhile, the financial transactions from the banking channels through drafts, demand drafts, telephonic transfers and other modes of monetary transaction are still continuing as usual.

However, cash will be provided for the payment of project and construction workers.
