Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde will install more closed-circuit-television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the town’s surroundings. Following the 5th Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition, about 100 flowers of four varieties have been stolen from the permanent gardens near the main exhibition centre and Thromde office.

Officials said the places are already under video surveillance and miscreants will be penalized.

The thromde has installed 19 CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas including the seven CCTV cameras, which were installed recently.

The town has transformed into a beautiful garden with blooming flowers at the doorstep of every building and along the streets following the flower exhibition.

“We will keep our flower gardens as it was during the exhibition time. We will fence it and take its good care. The initiative is for the benefit of everyone. We cannot leave the task to the thromde office alone. We all should work together to keep our town clean,” Dendup Tshering, the Regional Manager of Bhutan Oil Corporation in SJ, said.

“With the Royal initiative, the Flower Exhibition has changed our town to a beautiful one. We promise to take care of the gardens. If necessary, we will even deploy guards for its protection,”  Ugyen Penjor, the Deputy Chairperson of Thromde Tshogde, said.

Thromde officials said concerned stakeholders have agreed to take care of their respective gardens for all times. To this effect, they will soon organize a meeting and sign a memorandum of understanding as well.
