The government says the job vacancies for contract teachers will be announced within a week or two. There are some 200 graduates from the education colleges of Paro and Samtse who passed the Bhutan Civil Service Examination (BCSE) last year and are yet to be employed.
Unlike past years, last year, the vacancies for contract teachers were not announced following the Bhutan Civil Service Examination. The examination for B.Ed graduates was conducted in October.
Representatives of both colleges approached the opposition leader and Prime Minister’s Office a few weeks back.
At the last meet the press session, the prime minister confirmed that the vacancies will be announced soon.
“RCSC had already recruited the required regular teachers. Now education ministry and RCSC are waiting to see how many are required into a regular contract. In the next one to two weeks, the vacancies will come out,” Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said.
He added the requirement for teachers in the country is more than the actual number of job seekers.
“RCSC says 10 per cent of the teacher requirement should be met by the contract teachers every year even if there is a requirement for regular teachers. The reason being RSCS will fill up this by the next batch of graduates. If all the requirement is filled by the graduates this year, then there would be no vacancies next year,” Prime Minister said.
Last year, the RCSC recruited over 200 B.Ed graduates as regular teachers.
