Ten automobile workshops near the Bhutan-Indian border gate in Gelegphu Thromde will have to shift to the new Industrial Service Centre (ISC) by end of March this year.

The new ISC spread over 75 acres stretches from present Bhutan Oil Distributors (BOD) junction till domestic airport along the Gelegphu – Zhemgang highway.

There are 102 plots at the new service centre. 31 existing business firm including automobile and fabrication workshops were given priority to select the plots while the remaining plots were allocated to other new service firms.

The plot owners were given six months to establish the business in 2017.

Some of the automobile workshop owners are concern about the sustainability of their businesses at the centre.

The Gelegphu Thromde said if ten automobile workshops operate from the existing location, the workshops in the ISC will be affected.

The thromde said business establishment at the new ISC will have no dearth of customers.

“If they provide quality service, there will be customers. It ultimately depends on the business owners,” Gelegphu Thrompon Tikaram Kafley, said.

He added the basic amenities at ISC  like road access, electricity and water supply are almost complete. A budget of Nu 64 M has been allocated for the development of the centre.

With the operation of ISC, Gelephu Thromde expects to generate annual revenue of about Nu 10 M.
