Erratic power supply irks residents of Zhemgang town

The erratic power supply in Zhemgang town has left the residents irked. With frequent power blackout for months now, they say it is time the faulty power lines are fixed since it would be difficult to do so once the rainy season starts.

Locals say life becomes difficult when one is used to electricity. Apart from affecting the daily chores, power supply fluctuations also hamper official works.

“For household chores starting from boiling water to cooking, we depend on electricity. Compared to my village, the power supply is supposed to be more reliable in the town. But that’s not the case,” Dawa, a resident, said.

“With unreliable power supply, it hampers our works,” Kinzang Wangdi, another resident, said.

“Sometimes, we experience three to four power blackouts in a day,” Dawala, also a resident, said.

People added that they frequently call the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) to lodge power outage complaints.

Meanwhile, officials from the BPC office in Zhemgang are aware of the issue. They said it is difficult to carry out restoration works immediately since the power transmission lines run through thick forests.

Most areas are also not easily accessible. The office is, however, working on fixing the problem at the earliest.
