The thickness of blacktop or premix carpet for the Gewog Centre (GC) roads would be increased to 30mm from the current 25mm. The works and human settlement minister shared this at a question hour session in National Council last Friday.

Minister Dorji Tshering said a thicker premix carpet would help improve the quality and durability of the GC roads.

During the question hour session, Gasa MP Dorji Khandu asked the government if it has plans to modify the current specification of the road pavement standard for both Gewog Centre and Secondary National High Way roads.

He raised concerns over the quality and durability of the roads and said there is a need to improve the current specification of the road pavement standard.

In response, the minister for works and human settlement assured the government would improve the condition of the roads.

“We also have plans to determine the thickness of blacktop based on the geological stability and weather condition of the areas where the roads are,” Lyonpo said.
