The day begins with musical notes in Pemagatshel Middle Secondary School. Instead of loud school bells, the school plays music or songs to alert the students for morning assembly, lunch break and at the end of the day’s last class session. The school has come up with this new method to keep the students calm and lively.

Our reporter, Kinzang Yeshi, says that a passerby may wonder if there is a cultural show taking place in the school upon hearing this music every day. The music is also played at the end of the day’s last class session.

This new method was started from last year.“It is for the students and there is no one who doesn’t love music. Music is also associated with goddess Yangchenma and it might as well help students to concentrate and also makes them happy while studying,” says Tshewang Rinzin, a Teacher.

Teachers and students said they prefer music compared to the usual school bells. However, during religious occasions, the school plays religious music like Gurma to remind the students about the day.

On other days, popular Dzongkha and English songs fill the school campus.
