Hundreds gather at Changlimathang for Tshigduen Soeldep Bumthrak Chhenmo

A sacred prayer dedicated to Guru Rinpoche is bringing together hundreds of devotees, monks and nuns in the capital. The seven-day 13th Tshigduen Soeldep Bumthrak Chhenmo is being held at Changlimathang. The ceremony will conclude on Thursday with teachings from His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

The rhythmic sound of prayers fills Changlimithang as devotees gather in a shared moment of faith and devotion. Presided over by Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, the ceremony brings devotees together in prayer for global peace and harmony.

“I live in Thimphu and came here to pray for global peace. I also attended the ceremony last year,” said Kuenga Wangmo, Thimphu.

“I am grateful to attend this auspicious event presided over by a highly revered Rinpoche. Tshigduen Soeldep is a profound prayer, and I came to pray for global peace with other devotees,” said Wangchu Dorji, Thimphu.

Organisers say the prayer recounts the religious life of Guru Rinpoche.

“It is about the religious biography of Guru Rinpoche. Reciting the prayers blesses us. We also offer Kurim to Guru Rinpoche. Collective prayer is important to help us during sickness and calamities,” said Khenpo Karma Wangchuk, Chairperson, Tshokey Dorji Foundation.

Such a gathering reflects Bhutan’s enduring tradition of collective prayers and devotion. For devotees, it is also a time to come together in faith and seek blessings for peace and well-being.
