The farm road of Nautale in Lhamoidzingkha is in a bad shape and it hardly benefits the people in the village.

Rain and slides have damaged the five-kilometer road and rendered it impassable. The people are forced to use the routes that run through the dense tropical forests.

“It has not been repaired. It’s as good as not having a road. Even two wheelers cannot pass through, let alone light and medium vehicles,” Hemant Mukhiya said.

Taking the forest routes not only requires the villagers to walk long hours but also exposes them to risks of wild animal attacks.

The forest in the area is home to elephants and reptiles like snake.

Hemant Mukhiya said it’s particularly hard in times of sickness.

“It takes at least an hour and a half even for people who can walk well to get to the hospital in Lhamoidzingkha. When you have to carry a sick, it takes much longer.”

The village Tshogpa, Rohit, said a proper road would make the lives of the people in his village easier.

“Right now, we have to carry everything on our back and walk for hours,” he said.

The Gup of Lhamoizingkha, Surja Bdr Limbu, said the road alignment was not done properly. Also, it falls in an unstable area and, therefore, carrying out maintenance works would be challenging.

“We have plans to come up with a new road,” the Gup added.

The people in the village have raised the issue with their constituency candidates who promised to solve the problem.
