A Japanese family biking around the world is currently in Bhutan. The family of four has now been to eight countries including Bhutan.

50-year-old Tatsu Sakamoto, wife Yoshika Sakamoto and their two sons began the round-the-world cycling trip four years ago.

Its an eight-year journey and they have named it “The Sakamotos’ Great Six Continents Adventure”.

This is Tatsu Sakamoto’s second visit to Bhutan. He first visited Bhutan in 1998, 20 years ago, as part of a solo cycling trip he undertook before he had his family.

During the four-year solo trip, Tatsu Sakamoto had biked across 43 countries.

“I wanted my family to see and experience the world like I did,” he said.

Tatsu Sakamoto and family will bike to Bumthang. They want to go beyond Bumthang, but Yoshika Sakamoto is worried about her sons.

“I am worried about their safety. There are so many cars on the road. They also get hungry easily. Otherwise, the journey has been exciting and we would have loved to explore more of Bhutan,” she said.

Malaysia is their next destination.

Their aim is to cover as many countries as possible in the remaining four years of the trip.
