BCCI reassures its commitment to help develop cricket in Bhutan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reassured its commitment to help develop cricket in Bhutan. The Acting Secretary of BCCI, Amitabh Choudhary confirmed this during a press conference in Thimphu yesterday.

He was in the country for two-day visit (June 16-17). The Acting Secretary said, BCCI is ready to support Bhutan as and when it is ready with a land to build an international standard cricket ground.

Amitabh Choudhary added: “There is no mammoth difference between what an international and what a first class cricket match demands. The dimensions remain the same. And as soon as the land is available, we will be there to help.”

Meanwhile, Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) is looking for a suitable land in Thimphu and Paro to develop it as a cricket ground.

“We lack an international cricket ground in our country. The grounds we have right now are very small without any turf wickets. But, with the help of Bhutan Olympic Committee, we are looking for proper grounds,” said Thinley Wangchuk Dorji, at the same press conference.

BCCI is also committed to allow Bhutanese cricket team to undergo training on cricket grounds in India to prepare for international tournaments. Providing coaches and fitness trainers are among other commitments.
