DDC organises conference to improve usage of Dzongkha

In a bid to improve Dzongkha (national language) usage both in terms of written and oral communication, the Dzongkhag Development Commission (DDC)- the focal agency, mandated with Dzongkha development is organising a three-day conference, beginning today in the capital.

The DDC and members from media fraternity, education sector, publication units of government, and other agencies have come together to list down challenges and issues with regard to usage of Dzongkha.

The Chief Programme Officer of DDC, Namgay Thinley said: “People have been sharing concerns regarding the usage of dzongkha words in print and broadcast media. Same goes to government sector and other relevant agencies. So, this conference will try to identify the issues and how to address them.”

The key objective of the three-day conference is to pen down recommendations and solutions to improve usage of Dzongkha in texts and during verbal communications. Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay attended the opening of the conference today and told the gathering that Dzongkha, being the national language represents the national identity of the country.
