Close to 600 drug related arrests in Thimphu last year

Thimphu police have made 596 drug related arrests last year, the highest in two years.

Police also seized a little over 50,000 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus (SP+), some 12 cans of solvents, 2,370 N10 tablets, 72 bottles of corex, and 1,478 grams of marijuana and 1,068 grams of hashish from them.

More than half of the cases were forwarded to the court. The rest were referred to the Bhutan Narcotic Control Authority (BNCA) for treatment and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, 15 fresh arrests have been made in the first week of this year. Eight are in police custody, while the remaining seven have been handed over to BNCA.

Police seized 1,677 SP+ capsules and other drugs from them.

The arrests were made following a tip off. The detainees include both civil servants and private sector employees.
