Phuentshogling’s traffic congestion due to get worse

For the next three years, traffic congestion in Phuentshogling town is going to get worse.

The construction of northern bypass road which starts from second entry gate and ends at the junction near RBA colony is going to aggravate the traffic congestion in the town.

Over 2.6 km bypass road has been cleared since September this year and when the blacktopping works start, the road via Dantak office has to be closed, and that will result in traffic disruption. Add to this, Amochu Township and Land Reclamation Project will commence anytime soon which will lead to movement of heavy vehicles ferrying construction materials.

Also, a flyover bridge near the RSTA building and vegetable market will be built and during the construction period, it will block the vehicular movement. Another factor attributing to the existing traffic congestion is Phuentshogling’s pleasant weather around this time of the year. Government and corporate offices often plan to organise workshops and seminars there. Pilgrims also halt at the place while traveling for pilgrimage to India and Nepal.

Realising that managing traffic will be a mammoth task; the Phuentshogling Thrompon said they are going to come up with some measures to ease the traffic.

“We therefore request departments and government and private agencies to cooperate with our development. So if they could organise their seminars and workshops in some other places, it will help in decongesting the traffic,” said Uttar Kumar Rai, the Phuentshogling Thrompon.

Thromde officials said, once the northern bypass road completes, traffic congestion will become a thing of past. The bypass road construction project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank with fund of over Nu 198 m.
