Chhukha District Court sentenced a 23-year-old man from Trashigang to six years imprisonment for illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The judgment was out on Thursday. The convict was arrested by Gaedu Police for possessing 134 Spasmo Proxyvon (SP) Plus and 50 Nitrosun tablets while travelling from Phuentshogling to Thimphu in August, this year. During the trials, the man confessed to the court that the controlled substances were bought for his own consumption.
According to the Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance abuse Act of Bhutan 2015, a defendant shall be guilty of the offence of illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances if she or he possesses, imports, exports, stores, sells, purchases, transports, distributes, or supplies.
