MoIC’s accountant allegedly misused government’s fund

MoIC’s accountant allegedly misused government’s fund- The Ministry of Information and Communications’ accountant is being held responsible for misuse of government’s fund amounting to over Nu 3.6 M.

The exit meeting, held with auditors, has finalised that the accountant misused government’s fund through fraudulent practices.

The Royal Audit Authority (RAA) had issued 14 audit memos to the MoIC amounting to over Nu 7 M, last month.

The amount was decreased to Nu 3.6 M, following justifications from the ministry, during the exit meeting conducted last week.

RAA had come across fraudulent practices while they were reviewing the ministry’s account and operations from July 2011 to June 2014. The accountant was the one responsible for managing and maintaining the account during that period.

The ministry has asked the accountant to refund the amount by April 27. The accountant will be dealt according to the law if she fails to pay up, the ministry says.

MoIC will also be taking administrative actions against her.
