125 volunteers take part in the De-Suung training programme

The De-Suung training programme was launched at the military training centre in Tencholing, Wangduephodrang today.

The training programme which is unique and first of its kind is another milestone in the history of Bhutan, conceived and created by His Majesty the King.

The De-Suung training programme started with a prayer ceremony to symbolise the unity and harmony of the country and the spirit of volunteerism.

One hundred and twenty five volunteers taking part in the De-Suung training programme took an oath to serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum with full loyalty and dedication at any call of the nation. The oath taking ceremony was presided over by the Lam Naten of Wangdue.

Launching the De-Suung training programme, the Health Minister Lyonpo Zanglay Dukpa said that such training will provide a platform for interfacing and interacting between the two entities- the army and the civilians.

The health minister also urged the first batch of De-Suung volunteers to make the best use of the time at the training centre.

The chief operation officer of the Royal Bhutan Army Major General Batoo Tshering said that the values they cultivate will serve them and the nation in many inspiring ways in the years ahead.

The Gyalpoi Zimpon Dasho Penjor informed the gathering that De-Sunng is one of the landmarks that were initiated by His Majesty the King for the youth and the citizens.

The program offers a wholesome and inspiring insight into nation building and harmonious living in the modern world, to young Bhutanese citizens.

A lecture series will include topics that range from gross national happiness, rule of law, mass media, culture and emerging challenges for youth and national security.

During the five week training, De-Sups will also be given first hand training on search and rescue operations, preservation and conservation of the unique cultural heritage and traditions and conservation of our pristine environment.

The launching ceremony was attended the Chief of Police, RBG officials, government secretaries and other dignitaries.
