The construction of Sarpang Dzong and the development of the She Chang Thang town are likely to take-off soon. Meeting the Dzongkhag officials and local leaders of Sarpang, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, yesterday assured that the works will begin soon.
She Chang Thang lies across the present town on the other side of the Sarpang River. Lyonchhen directed the Dzongkhag administration to start the works related to land acquisition and allotment as soon as possible. “We will also look at the road and water supply for the development of the town and begin the works as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, the home minister, Damcho Dorji, informed the gathering that the government of India has committed financial assistance of Nu. 200 million for the Dzong construction. Of that, Lyonpo said the government has already received Nu. 20 million for the pre-construction works. Lyonpo asked the Dzongkhag to finalise the site identification as soon as possible.
“An important thing that has to be borne in mind is that the site for the Dzong construction should not be selected for the benefit of few. The larger interest of the nation has to be taken into account while identifying the site,” the minister added.
Once the site is finalised, Lyonpo said the structural plans would be worked on and constructions will begin as soon as possible.
